Algeria upholds seven-year jail sentence for French journalist
French sports journalist Christophe Gleizes was sentenced to seven-year jail and for “glorifying terrorism” by an appeal court in Tizi Ouzou, Algeria, according to France 24 on 3rd December.
Gleizes has been detained in Algeria since his arrest in May 2024, after he had travelled to the North African state to interview Algeria’s most successful football club, Jeunesse Sportive de Kabylia.
He is accused of having been in touch with one of the club’s officials who is also part of the Movement for the Self-determination of Kabylia, a separatist group classified as a terrorist movement.
