Libya announces mass deportation of sub-Saharan migrants
Libya is planning to deport many sub-Saharan African migrants, with the Interior minister Imad Trabelsi stating that up to 3 million migrants have crossed into Libya over the past 15 years, according to Africanews on December 4th.
A total of 25,000 migrants have been intercepted and returned to Libya this year, raising questions over long-term settlement.
In addition, over 700,000 Sudanese migrants have sought shelter in Libya, but there have been reports of deportations to Sudan, as the authorities are struggling with the influx.
