Emmanuel Macron’s envoy for Lebanon, former Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, is currently in Beirut to discuss the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon and the situation in South Lebanon, according to Lebanese news outlet Naharnet on December 9th.

France is part of a US-led committee tasked with monitoring the ceasefire, which came into effect in November 2024, amid expectations that Lebanon and Israel will start direct negotiations.

Israel has continued to attack targets in Lebanon, killing 13, purportedly in an attack on a refugee camp near Sidon in Lebanon, as reported on November 19th.
