Morocco launches Women in AI drive to boost digital growth
Morocco is set to make the Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry in the country more inclusive by introducing a Women in AI initiative, which will also help strengthen women’s role in AI development, as reported by APA News on December 1st.
The Women in AI Morocco Summit 2025, held at Casablanca Technopark on December 5th, aimed to promote women’s skills in AI, support their entry into technology fields and create a structured platform for mentorship, training and collaboration.
Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, attended the summit, underscoring the government’s support for the initiative.
Additionally, this initiative is linked to Morocco’s Digital 2030 plan, which aims to position the country as a regional technology hub.
Notably, Morocco also announced a new labour code for digital transformation in the country.
The push for digital transformation is not limited to AI, with Moroccan mobile service operators recently launching 5G networks.
According to the APA report, organisers of the summit emphasised that the push for AI talent, applied research, and responsible innovation has become essential as competition among emerging markets increases.
The Women in AI initiative outlines four main goals: building an inclusive national AI ecosystem, promoting women’s leadership in STEM, strengthening Morocco’s role as a regional AI player and encouraging ethical, sustainable AI development.
Moreover, organisers argued that increased access to training and support is crucial to ensure digital sovereignty and to attract more women into the field.
Sofia Ghacham, Founder and President of the Women in AI Morocco initiative, said the launch marks a turning point for the country’s digital future.
She stated that the network aims to build “ethical and inclusive AI driven by the talent of Moroccan women,” adding that it will expand Morocco’s international presence across global AI networks.
The summit will gather government officials, tech leaders and experts from Africa, the Middle East and the United States.
