Rwanda accused of violating US peace deal after new offensive
The US envoy to the United Nations Mike Waltz has accused Rwanda of violating a peace agreement after M23 rebels took control of the Eastern Congo city of Uvira, according to AP on 12th December. He also threatened possible action against Kigali’s regime and called for restraint.
Over 400 civilians have reportedly been killed in the offensive against the strategic city, close to the Burundi borders.
The Trump administration had invited both the Congolese and Rwandan leaders in early December to negotiate a peace deal, widely touted as a diplomatic victory for Trump.
