US ambassador’s support for Israeli settlements criticised

Mike Huckabee, the US Ambassador to Israel, has been condemned for his apparent support of Israeli settlement expansion, as reported by Maghrebi Week on December 22nd.

Rouhi Fattouh, chairman of the Palestinian National Council, claimed Huckabee has given political cover for the expansion of settlements across the occupied Palestinian territories.

An estimated 700,000 Israelis live in settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with the number expected to increase after the Israeli government greenlit the construction of almost 800 housing units in the West Bank, according to reports on December 11th.
