Hundreds of protests took place on October 26th as Cameroon’s opposition leader, Issa Tchiroma, claimed victory in the country’s presidential election; according to a report by Africa News and agencies on October 27th.

The protesters demanded that authorities acknowledge Tchiroma’s victory over the current President Paul Biya, who has been in office since 1982.

The elections, which took place on October 12th, have been highly contentious, as both Tchiroma and Biya declared victory on October 20th, before the results were released.
