Sudan: Khartoum points the finger at the UAE
During a UN Security Council meeting on October 30th, Khartoum’s representative Al Harith Idriss accused the UAE of being behind the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) paramilitary group currently decimating Sudan, reported RFI on October 31st.
After an offer of financial help from the UAE, Idriss stated than any comment from the UAE claiming any influence over Sudan would be perceived as a sign of contempt towards Sudan. The Emirati representative, Mohamad Abushahab, then accused the Sudanese army of refusing a ceasefire.
The UN had earlier expressed its condemnation of the RSF attacks, which killed hundreds of civilians in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher, and noted it could constitute ethnic cleansing.
