World’s biggest rooftop solar plant will be built in Bahrain
Dubai-based sustainable energy developer Yellow Door Energy and the investment company Foulath Holding have announced plans for a 123 Megawatt-peak (MWp) solar project in Bahrain, according to an announcement from Yellow Door Energy on November 2nd.
The site will be comprised of ten rooftop solar plants and four ground-mounted solar PV installations that will feature more than 189,900 solar panels in total, spread across 707,000 sqm.
It will also include the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar power plant, consisting of 77,000 solar panels installed in a 262,000 sqm stockyard shed.
The project aims to generate 200 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy in its initial year of activity, decreasing carbon emissions.

The announcement comes after Foulath Holding and Yellow Door Energy signed a power purchase agreement (PPA).
“We are incredibly proud of this transformative project – marking the largest rooftop solar plant in the world,” said minister of sustainable development and chief executive of Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB), Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif.
“This milestone not only strengthens our position as a regional leader in clean energy, but embodies our dedication to build a resilient, sustainable future in line with our national vision of elevating Bahrain’s international competitiveness.”
Chairman of Foulath Holding Meshary Al-Judaimi added: “Over the past several years, Foulath has invested approximately USD 250 million in various sustainability projects.”
“These investments are a testament to our commitment to responsible operations, environmental stewardship and protecting the health and well-being of our community, thereby ensuring industrial development goes hand-in-hand with environmental care.”
It was reported on October 13th that Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has awarded Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewables developer, and France’s Engie a development contract to build a 1.5 GW gigawatt solar plant in Abu Dhabi.
The Khazna Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Project is situated near Al Khazna in Abu Dhabi and will include nearly three million solar panels which will provide enough electricity to power approximately 160,000 homes and cut over 2.4 million metric tons of carbon emissions, per annum.
