Tunisia announces deportation numbers for sub-Saharan migrants
On November 4th, Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti announced that Tunisia conducted the deportations of approximately 10,000 sub-Saharan Africans, sending them back to their countries and vowing not to become a transit zone, according to AfricaNews via Reuters.
The International Organization for Migration coordinated a voluntary program alongside Tunisian authorities to help assist and organise regular weekly flights to allow migrants to return to their countries.
The Foreign Minister added that Tunisia will not become a transit zone for migrants trying to reach Europe, and announced to continue their efforts to curb the migration flow, which they were heavily criticised for as they used deadly methods to dramatically decrease the number of migrants reaching Europe.
