Earthquake strikes near Indonesian Island
An earthquake with a 6.1-magnitude hit near Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island, according to the US Geological Survey, causing residents to escape outside, Arab News via AFP reported on February 26th.
At a local time of 6:55 am, the tremor hit, with a depth of 6.2 miles. Indonesia’s meteorological agency announced a lower magnitude of 6.0 and said there was no possibility for a Tsunami to take place.
North Sulawesi’s locals commented on the terror that the quake induced. “I had just woken up when I realized it was an earthquake. It was strong, swaying from side to side,” 25-year-old Gita Waloni who was staying at a hotel in North Minahasa district told AFP.
