Tunisia: protests continue as court assesses pollution case
Tunisia’s protests are continuing in Gabès in front of a court, as the authorities assessed a complaint against a factory, which has reportedly impacted the environment and the health of locals, according to the New Arab and agencies on November 13th.
Local Tunisians were protesting outside of the court to express their frustration, to highlight the impact of Tunisia’s phosphate industry on their lives and to demand the shutdown of the factory, as authorities were considering the suspension of its activities.
The complaint was lodged by the local bar association, and seeks to halt the factory’s activities. Mounir Adouni, the head of the local bar association said: “Today we presented evidence that shows this is a crime committed against the city.”
