French interior minister announces potential visit to Algeria
The French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced that he would potentially visit Algeria, after the Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune pardoned the French-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal on November 12th, according to Reuters.
The French Interior Minister said that he hoped to start the dialogue again with Algerian officials, which he argued is essential for France’s security and safety.
The pardon is seen as a sign of hope to mend French-Algerian relations, which have deeply been impacted ever since France’s recognition of Morocco’s controversial sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
