Tanzania: President selects daughter for cabinet role
Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has selected her daughter for the nation’s cabinet, according to Africa News and agencies on November 18th.
The announcement, which also gave a key cabinet role to Hassan’s son-in-law, was made during a televised address from Chamwino State House in Dodoma on November 17th. Hassan’s daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, will be the Deputy Minister of Education, while her husband, Mohamed Mchengerwa, will serve as the Minister of Health.
Hassan is the winner of the October 29th election, which took place amid reports that major opposition candidates were barred from standing and that foreign journalists faced significant restrictions.
