Algeria has announced a number of ambitious reforms to improve living standards, enhance administrative systems and develop iron mining, according to Maghrebi Week on 24th November.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been driving change on several fronts: raising the minimum wage and unemployment benefits, and creating new administrative provinces to facilitate the population’s access to services and simplify processes.

The president also announced the opening of a new iron mine for exploration in Gara Djebilet in western Algeria, with the aim to diversify the country’s sources of income and lessen its reliance of hydrocarbons revenue, which was highlighted as an issue in a recent report.
