Tunisia: external debt in decline, says new report

A new report published by the Central Bank of Tunisia shows that the country’s external debt has decreased to 47.5% of GDP, down from 54.6% in 2023, according to Tunisian La Presse on 9th December.

While it is a sign that Tunisia’s long term debts are under control, observers note that the North African country remains heavily dependent on international organisations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The IMF highlighted Tunisia in a recent report for its failure to complete mandatory consultations in time, reflecting its economic challenges and issues with its banking sector.
