Burkina Faso endorses Moroccan autonomy plan
Burkina Faso has reaffirmed support for Moroccan sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara region, according to the Moroccan government-friendly North Africa Post and agencies on December 10th.
This reaffirmation of support followed a 5th Session of the Morocco-Burkina Faso Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Ouagadougou, between Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
Resolution 2797, also known as the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, would grant the Western Sahara limited self-governance under Moroccan sovereignty. The plan has received widespread support, and the UN Security Council voted to endorse it on October 31st.
