The leader of the opposition Free Destourian Party Abir Moussi has received a 12-year jail sentence from a Tunisian court, according to Africa News on 13th December.

Moussi was a prominent supporter of Ben Ali’s regime and staunch opponent to the Islamic Ennahda’s party, whose leader Rached Ghannouchi has also been jailed. She was arrested in October 2023 for “assault” and has denied the charges.

She is the last of many politicians, journalists and lawyers to receive a lengthy jail term as President Kais Saied continues his crackdown on opposition figures, following the mass court case last month that saw dozens jailed on “conspiracy” charges.
