A report by the National Statistics Office claims that unemployment rates in Algeria have dropped to 9.7%, despite only 41.7% of adults working, according to Maghrebi Week on 15th December.

Women and graduates are particularly at risk of unemployment, with Algeria showing similar patterns as neighbouring countries such as Morocco: only 19.2% of Algerian women work, compared to 63.9% of men.

The Tebboune government has introduced a number of reforms to support the most vulnerable parts of the population and to improve living standards, such as creating unemployment benefits in 2022, which 1.9 million people receive, and raising minimum wages.
