UK condemns plans for 19 Israeli settlements
The UK has condemned Israeli plans to construct 19 new settlements in the Occupied West Bank, stating that in accordance with international law the construction would be illegal, as reported by the Middle East Eye and agencies on December 22nd.
In a post on X, the British Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, wrote, “The UK condemns the Israeli government’s approval of 19 new settlements in Palestine. These are illegal under international law.”
More than 500,000 Israelis are estimated to be living in settlements across the West Bank, with the number expected to increase amid Israeli plans to annex 82% of the West Bank and build over 3000 housing units for settlers.
