Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris presented a peace plan at the UN’s Security Council to end over 2 years of brutal war with the Rapid Support Forces militias (RSF), reports AP on December 23rd.

The proposal includes a ceasefire to be monitored by the UN as well as the Arab League and African Union, and demands the withdrawal of RSF forces from the areas they occupy.

The conflict has subjected the Sudanese population to mass killings and rapes by militias, as well as forcing hundreds of thousands of people out of their homes, bringing Sudan to the top of watch lists for humanitarian crises.
