Israel to set up Gaza settlements, says defence minister
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has announced plans to establish settlements in north Gaza, according to the Middle East Eye and agencies on December 23rd.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the construction of 1,200 housing units in the West Bank on December 23rd, Katz stated that Israel will construct Nahal settlements, which are created by Israeli soldiers.
Although Israeli settlements in Gaza were dismantled in 2005 under then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s “disengagement” plan, some Israelis have been caught breaching the border in an effort to establish new settlement outposts.
