Iran’s Foreign Minister claims the attack on Iran’s embassy building in Damascus is Israel’s attempt to expand war regionally, reports the Middle East Online plus agencies.

On the 7th of April, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian began a regional tour in Muscat. He met Omani officials and a representative of Yemen’s Houthis Mohamed Abdelsalam, who stated the Iranian-backed militant group would continue to target Israel-bound ships until a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.

While in Oman, Amirabdollahian stated, “The attack on Iran’s embassy building in Damascus is a new step in Israel’s warmongering and its attempt to expand war regionally.”

Iran has vowed to avenge the death of seven of its Revolutionary Guards commanders who were killed in the attack. On the 7th of April, a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader said that Israeli embassies were no longer safe.

When asked about the strike, an Israeli military spokesperson said “We do not comment on reports in the foreign media” as Israel typically does not discuss attacks by its forces on Syria.

A week after Iran’s consulate there was targeted in a suspected Israeli attack, on the 8th of April, Amirabdollahian left Oman to visit Syria’s capital Damascus.

Iran experts believe that Tehran might be seeking Oman’s mediation with Washington to avoid a direct showdown with the US or a serious escalation with Israel according to The Arab Weekly.

A US official stated on the 5th of April that The United States is on high alert and is preparing for a possible attack by Iran targeting Israeli or American assets in the region in response.
