Algerian chief visits Mauritania as countries closen ties
An Algerian Lieutenant visited Mauritania this week with the intention of strengthening co-operation between the two countries, as reported by the Arab Weekly via agencies on October 16th.
Algeria’s General Said Chengriha was the first Algerian military official of his rank to visit Nouakchott, which marks a change from Algeria’s previously hostile relationship with Mauritania.
Over the last few years the two countries have drastically improved ties, with the signing of numerous trade deals and the opening of a border crossing, while Mauritanian sources added that the contacts between the two are not intended to antagonise Morocco.
