Italian court ruling leads to migrants returning to Italy
12 migrants were returned from Italy to Albania on October 19th following a decision by an Italian court, according to Africa News and agencies.
The decision questioned the Italian government’s strategy of transferring migrant processing to Albania.

The migrants, who boarded the Guardia Costiera ship at the Shengjin port for their journey to Italy, were among a group of 16 intercepted in international waters earlier this week and taken to Albania.
On October 18th, a court in Rome ruled against the detention of the 12 migrants, as due to safety concerns they couldn’t be returned to their home countries.

The deal to transfer the housing of asylum seekers to a country not in the EU has been praised by Italy among other nations facing a rise in immigration. The deal has been controversial however, with human rights organisations condemning the move as a perilous example.
