Egypt imposes near-outright ban on Syrian arrivals

Egypt has imposed a near-total ban on Syrian nationals entering the country as el-Sisi’s government increasingly fear the arrival of Islamic activists.

According to MiddleEastMonitor on January 5th, only those Syrians holding temporary non-tourist residency permits are allowed entry into the North African country.

The measures highlight Cairo’s growing concern over national security, with the flux of people leaving Syria potentially containing members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, and other banned groups.
