Lebanon approves extradition of Egyptian Qaradawi to UAE
Lebanon has chosen to extradite Egyptian opposition figure Abdul Rahman al-Qaradawi, descendant of the late Muslim Brotherhood scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi, to the United Arab Emirates, despite warnings that he could be subject to mistreatment there.
Al Jazeera reports that he was arrested Lebanon on December 28th, shortly after returning from Syria, where he recorded a video of himself at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, and in the video criticised the authorities of the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The UAE and Egypt have both filed requests for his extradition. The decision to extradite him to the former came hours after Amnesty International called on authorities to reject the requests for extradition to both countries.
