Somali president visits Ethiopia amid improving relations
The Somali president visited Ethiopia on January 11th, his office said, the biggest indication yet of improving relations between the two following a year of tensions over Addis Ababa’s plans to build a naval base in the breakaway republic of Somaliland, Reuters reported.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s office said in a statement posted on the X that the president flew to Ethiopia from Uganda where he had visited earlier in the day to attend a summit on African agriculture.
There, he held discussions with Ethiopian leadership “to strengthen bilateral relations and advance shared priorities.” They also agreed to restore and improve bilateral relations through full diplomatic representation in their capitals, according to the joint statement on X.
