Uganda: Opposition leader to be tried for treachery
A military court in Uganda has ruled that major opposition leader Kizza Besigye can be tried for treachery, a crime punishable by death.
According to Al-Jazeera on January 14th, the verdict comes in the run-up to the presidential elections scheduled for 2026, a position Besigye has contested four times already.
Besigye went missing in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi in November, days later appearing before a Ugandan court, charged with illegal possession of a firearm and solicitation of military support overseas in order to destabilise national security.
