The Moroccan Amazigh population celebrated their new year on January 14th, but the party was dampened by last years deadly floods and the persisting tragedy of the 2023 earthquake.

According to the New Arab, Adil Adaskou, an Amazigh activist, called for a minute of silence for “our brothers and sisters in Tata and the Atlas”, as the congregation gathered in front of the Moroccan parliament.

A deluge last year in the stunning oasis region of Tata killed at least 19 people, while state aid for earthquake damages in remote areas of Tata and the Atlas remains slow and insufficient.
