CIA updates Morocco map to include Western Sahara
The CIA updated its official map of Morocco on January 15th to include the disputed territory of Western Sahara that it recognised as Moroccan back in 2020.
The website, updated on the eve of Trump’s inauguration, states that “in 2020, the US recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over all of Western Sahara.” It was Trump who recognised Western Sahara as Moroccan as part of a deal in which Morocco agreed to recognise Israel.
Israel recognised Western Sahara as Moroccan in 2023, and France did the same last summer after president Macron made a visit to the country.
