Satellite imagery has been released showing the rapid expansion of Russian forces at a Libyan base as the geopolitical giant continues its pivot from Syria to Africa.

According to The New Arab on January 28th, MENA-focused independent intelligence outlet EekadFacts posted images of Russian build up at the strategic base of Mataan al-Sarra, on the border between Sudan and Chad.

The military base is presided over by strongman Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army, who occupy the eastern part of Libya, and enjoy increasing backing from Russia as its importance for Moscow’s influence in Africa grows.
