Ringleader of Morocco’s migrant boat tragedy arrested

The leader of the migrant smuggling operation which resulted in a tragic deaths of 50 people off the coast of Morocco has been arrested in Pakistan.

According to Arab News on January 3rd, the boat accident which involved 66 Pakistanis, was presided over by Mauritania-based Pakistani Abdul Ghaffar who had previously smuggled his fellow countrymen into Europe.

The Islamabad-based intelligence agency, the Federal Investigation Agency, who arrested Ghaffur as he arrived in the city, said: “Strict legal action will be taken against smugglers who play with innocent lives.”
