Egyptian firm charging trucks entering Gaza $20,000 in ‘bribes’

Egyptian tribal leader Ibrahim al-Organi still exercises de facto control over the entry of commercial and aid trucks into Gaza following the ceasefire that came into effect on January 19th, Middle East Eye reported on February 13th.
Attempts to bring goods and aid into Gaza following the ceasefire have been complicated by the extortionate fees imposed on commercial trucks and the power Organi’s firms have in determining which trucks enter the strip.
Trucks carrying commercial goods to be later sold in Gaza are charged at least $20,000, sources told MEE, while aid trucks are also subject to extortion before crossing into the strip.
