Pan African Parliament condemns displacement of Palestinians

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) condemn the planned forced displacement of the Palestinians from their homeland, according to AL24 on February 25th.
The PAP, which is the legislative body of the African Union, has remained an ardent supporter of the rights of the Palestinians since Israel’s invasion of Gaza in October 2023.
Donald Trump has pressured North African nations to take in displaced Palestinians as he plans to reinvigorate the region by creating a ‘Mediterranean riviera’.
According to Maghrebi on February 11th, Trump suggested that Morocco, as well as two regions in the Horn of Africa: Puntland and Somaliland, could be possible ‘solutions’ for the forced displacement of Palestinians.
But the PAP continues to resist such plans, which are tantamount to ethnic cleansing and have been condemned by the United Nations.
The PAP has affirmed its rejection of all violations of international law and has condemned the illegal invasion of Gaza by Israel.
The theme of this year’s meeting was of justice for Africans and People of African descent through reparations.
However, the concept was extended to include the Palestinian people who are suffering under the same repression that has been experienced by members of the African Union.
The US recently skipped a two day G20 meeting in South Africa, as reported by Maghrebi on February 22nd.
US secretary of state Marco Rubio and president Donald Trump have both criticised South Africa’s ‘anti American’ and ‘misguided anti-Israel’ policies.
The PAP expressed solidarity with South Africa and rejected pressure attempts and sanctions threats against the nation, the Council of the Nation (the upper house of Parliament) said in a statement on Tuesday.
The president of the PAP, Chief Fortune Charumbira said during his speech on Monday in Midrand (South Africa) that, ‘this year’s meetings of the continental body are taking place under the African Union (AU) 2025 theme: Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.’
The theme will aim to ‘remind us and invite us to work together to acknowledge the deep injustice endured by Africans and their descendants because of slavery, colonisation and economic exploitation, as well as all the structural inequalities that persist to this day,” he noted.
