Morocco and Mauritania near completion of new border crossing

Morocco and Mauritania are nearing the completion of a new border crossing at Amgala, strengthening Morocco’s position as a gateway between Europe and the Sahara.
According to Middle East Monitor, the work is now 95 percent complete.
The 93-kilometre road will link Smara, a city in Moroccan controlled Western Sahara to Mauritania via Amgala, an area in Western Sahara currently controlled by the Polisario, costing around MAD 49.7 million ($5 million).
