Ukraine’s future at stake as Zelensky meets Starmer for summit

In a summit that could help shape the future of European security, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer are set to meet in London on March 2, alongside several other Western leaders, to discuss the war in Ukraine
According to AL24 News, the talks will include countries such as France, Germany, and Canada, along with other Western nations, and will primarily focus on strengthening Ukraine’s position for potential peace negotiations with Russia
The summit has taken on new significance following Zelensky’s disastrous meeting with US president Donald Trump on February 28.
The highly publicized meeting, originally intended to conclude with the signing of a historic mineral deal between the two nations, instead turned into a shouting match, with Trump incorrectly blaming Zelensky for starting the war in Ukraine.
As a result, no deal was signed, and Zelensky was forced to leave much earlier than planned at Trump’s insistence
Speaking about the incident, Rachel Ellehuus from the Royal United Services Institute called the meeting a “major step backward” for Ukraine
She further warned that the US may, in the long run ,withdrew military and financial support for Ukraine, a terrifying prospect for Zelensky to face.
Despite these recent developments, many Western leaders remain optimistic that a peace deal securing Ukraine’s long term security is still possible – as long as the country has the full backing of Western Europe and its allies.
However, whether such a deal can be reached without US support remains uncertain.
For now, regardless of the summit’s outcome, the war in Ukraine seems set to continue, with no clear path to peace in sight.
