Egyptian MP calls for enquiry into activist’s imprisonment

Egyptian MP, Freddy al-Baiady, has called for an enquiry into the imprisonment of Egyptian-British activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah, according to The New Arab on March 4^th.

Abdel-Fattah was imprisoned for five years in 2021, for “spreading false news” and was a key figure in the 2011 uprising which deposed the then-President Hosni Mubarak.

Al-Baiady has submitted an enquiry to the Egyptian Prime Minister, Justice Minister and Interior Minister about the reasons for Abdel-Fattah’s continued detention, despite the fact he has served his full sentence.
