A number of European nations have said they support an Arab-backed plan for reconstruction in Gaza which would not include displacing Palestinians, in a break from the US and president Trump’s plans to turn the enclave into a “Middle East Riviera”.

BBC News reported on March 8th that the plan, originally unveiled by Egypt, would cost $53 billion and calls for Gaza to be ruled temporarily by a committee of independent experts and for international peacekeepers to be deployed to the strip.

On March 8th, the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK offered their support for the plan, which calls for Gaza to be rebuilt over five years, describing it as “realistic”.
