After the recent appointment of the mayor of Hamtramck mayor Amer Ghalib as ambassador to Kuwait, president Trump has appointed a second Detroit Metro mayor to a diplomatic position, making Lebanese-born Bill Bazzi ambassador to Tunisia.

Trump praised US Marine veteran Bazzi for his military service, engineering career with Boeing and Ford, and international collaborations. “Bazzi is a decorated U.S. Marine, who honorably served our country for 21 years, collaborating with U.S. Embassy Ambassadors, Diplomats, and Leaders throughout the world,” Trump wrote on Truth Social according to Middle East Monitor.

Bazzi has been the mayor of Dearborn Heights since 2021, and his work has included diplomatic partnerships, including a trip to Jordan in 2023 through the State Department and Arab American Institute.
