The World Bank has presented a $1 billion program for the reconstruction of Lebanon after a US-brokered ceasefire was extended in mid-February, according to Asharq Al Awsat.
According to the Lebanese prime minister’s office, the program includes a proposed $250 million as a loan, with the rest expected to come as international aid.
The World Bank has estimated that the total cost of reconstruction and recovery in Lebanon, which follows the end of the 4-month Israel-Hezbollah war, is estimated at $11 billion.
The report by the World Bank’s Lebanon Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment covered damage and losses in ten sectors across Lebanon from Oct. 8, 2023, until Dec. 20, 2024.
The US-brokered ceasefire first went into effect in late November.
