Nigerian President declares state of emergency

Nigeria is on the verge of a political crisis after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich Rivers state, and suspended the regional government for 6 months.
According to BBC on March 19th, the president justified his decision in a nationwide declaration on the evening of March 18th, in which he said he had received “disturbing reports detailing incidents of vandalisation of pipelines by some militants without the governor taking any actions to curtail them.”
The declaration caused an outcry among lawyers and opposition politicians, including the suspended governor Siminalayari Fubara and state lawmakers.
