Italian PM Meloni set to visit Tunisia over immigration row
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is set to visit Tunisia the week beginning June 5th to discuss relations between the two countries but primarilly to tackle the difficult topic of illegal immigration. President Kais Saied invited the PM to visit during a call that covered bilateral relations and Tunisia’s ties with the European Union.

The visit is also expected to cover President Saied’s initiative to host a conference to discuss the immigration issue in the region. The high-level conference is set to include countries in North Africa, the Sahel, the Sahara and the northern shore of the Mediterranean.
Ahead of the upcoming visit, Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar lauded Italian support of recovery efforts for Tunisia’s financial crisis. At the G7 Summit in Japan last May, Meloni urged the International Monetary Fund to adopt a “pragmatic” strategy to address funding to Tunisia.
