Tunisian opposition party leader Ahmed Najib Chebbi has demanded the release of Ennahda Movement leader Rached Ghannouchi and Free Destourian Party leader Abir Moussi from prison.

According to MEMO, in a press conference in Tunis on the 19th of March, the opposition leader asked for the two captives to be released, calling the imprisonment of the two “the liquidation of political life.”

Ghannouchi was arrested in April 2023, with one of his cases resulting in a 22-year preliminary sentence. Moussi was arrested in October of the same year for trying to file an appeal against a presidential decree. As of this time, the Tunisian authorities have not commented on Chebbi’s statements, and the two captives remain in prison.
