Tunisia: Opposition politician sentenced to 66 years in prison

A court in Tunisia has handed out prison sentences to around 40 opposition figures ranging from between 13 and 66 years for supposedly “conspiring against the government”, as reported by AP on April 20th.
The accused include former diplomats, journalists, lawyers and human rights defenders.
Many have spent more than two years in pre-trial detention, often being held arbitrarily and being forced to go on hunger strike.
