The Congolese government has asked the country’s Senate to amend the law in order to prosecute former President Joseph Kabila for his alleged support of the M23 rebel faction.

According too the Associated Press, Justice Minster Constant Mutamba, speaking to the press on April 30, said that the former president had been implicated in “war crimes,” including the killing of “peaceful civilians.”

The move to charge the former president comes amid a series of recent strategic gains by the M23 rebel group, including the capture of the major city of Goma.
