Tunisia hands out three more sentences to opposition figures

A Tunisian court has sentenced in absentia the former president Moncef Marzouki, his former advisor Imed Daimi and former bar association president Abderrazak Kilana, all to 22 years in prison according to Africa News on June 21st.
They were charged by the criminal chamber of the court which specializes in terrorism cases, but details of the case and why the charges are terrorism related have not been disclosed. Although their sentences carry immediate effect, the three men are on the run abroad.
Tunisia’s President Kais Saied has been targeting opposition figures in this way for months now, and the regime has faced criticism from protesters and foreign powers. Other top politicians including the former Prime Minister and main opposition leader are facing similar sentences.
