62% of Israelis want a deal with Hamas to free hostages

A survey has revealed that 62% of Israelis wish for their nation to reach an agreement with Hamas to liberate hostages held in Gaza and to stop the war in the territory, Middle East Eye reported on June 25th.
Nevertheless, 52% of the respondents rejected the truce agreement with Iran. The poll was conducted by Walla, a news outlet owned by the Jerusalem Post. Earlier, on May 21st, the BBC stated that 61% of Israelis want the Gaza war to cease and for captives to be released, according to a survey from Israel’s Channel 12.
The Channel 12 survey also revealed that just a quarter of Israelis support the idea of occupying Gaza and for the war to continue to escalate.
The Israeli administration previously asserted it will eliminate Hamas and recover the remaining captives. Netanyahu has claimed he can achieve “total victory,” and he also has a firm group of supporters. However, Gershon Baskin, an ex-Israeli hostage mediator, had stated that the sentiment among other members of the Israeli public “is one of despair, trauma, and a lack of a sense of ability to change anything.”
In April 2025, thousands of Israel’s reservists from every division of the armed forces signed letters urging for Netanyahu’s government to halt the combat and focus instead on securing an agreement to recover the remaining hostages.
The UK previously halted negotiations on a trade agreement with Israel and summoned the nation’s ambassador, with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, declaring the acceleration of armed conflict in Gaza “morally unjustifiable.”
On June 18th, a survey from YouGov revealed that 55% of residents in the UK are against Israel’s armed operations in Gaza, with 82% of those opposing it labelling the military campaign as genocide, Maghrebi via Middle East Eye reported.
The survey also revealed that 45% of British adults consider Israel’s military operations to be genocide. Among those who voted for the UK Labour Party in last year’s General Election, 68% opposed Israel’s conduct in Gaza. Of that 68%, a total of 87% believed Israel’s actions in Gaza are genocidal.
