President Donald Trump of the US has urged for Israel to “pardon” Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing trial for purported corruption, or drop the trial entirely, the BBC via Reuters reported on June 26th.

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu, has denied charges of fraud, a violation of trust and bribery. Netanyahu has been on trial for the charges since 2020.

The main opposition leader of Israel, Yair Lapid, condemned Trump’s involvement. Lapid said the US president should not “intervene in a legal process of an independent state.” Trump described Netanyahu as a “warrior” who has contributed significantly to Israel.
