Algeria has made significant progress in digital infrastructure, gaining 15 places in the latest International Telecommunication Union ranking, AL24 News reported on July 2nd.

According to the Information and Communication Technology Development Index (IDI) published in June 2025, Algeria now ranks 74th worldwide, a marked improvement from 89th place the previous year. The ITU index assesses countries based on criteria including access, use, and skills related to ICT.

Algeria scored 86.1 points in the 2025 evaluation, surpassing the global average of 78 points. It also outperformed the Arab region’s average of 77.6 points, the African average of 56.1 points, and even the 81.1-point average of upper middle-income countries.

The Ministry credited this achievement to national efforts to expand digital access and services. In a statement, it emphasized that the progress “reflects the results achieved by Algeria, in line with the forward-looking vision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, regarding the widespread adoption of ICTs across its vast territory for the benefit of all its citizens.”

This leap positions Algeria among the stronger digital performers in both Africa and the Arab region, marking a notable step in the country’s ongoing technology development.

The Ministry noted that Algeria aims to build on this momentum by investing further in digital infrastructure, expanding internet coverage in rural areas, and enhancing citizens’ access to online public services.
